At the community center there is a lot to do you can lift weights you can play cards you can work on art you can write essays you could brew a pot of herbal tea and you could play table games. So if you say friend what are you going to do at the community center, he doesn’t know.

Its a naive question because you, may not have even been there before or even if u have you may not know what your exact intentions for going there are yet until u get there other than u just feel like going. Lol idk if that made sense to you..

If you could add explanations, it’d be great, thanks!
I’m trying to learn these words for college. (I’m not a native English speaker.)

I work as an art teacher at an after school community center and I have noticed that some of the kids there are a little OFF…. I am not sure if it just because they are kids but sometimes I swear to bob there is something wrong with some of them. Some are as mature and bright as adults and some seem like… well… they can’t think or process though :/ I am NOT trying to be mean. The problem is, I want to make sure that if this is true, I can appropriately handle them.

So if I asked the managers there if there are any kids with mental handicaps, would that be rude? How can I ask them nicely?
It’s only an issue if they are mentally handicapped and I have not been accommodating my teaching for them. I want to make sure they even though they may be a little slow that they can still do the work and be proud of what they do. It’s been difficult with some of them.

No,no,no. The way you ask is if any kids in your class have special needs. That’s it, plain and simple. no long " I notice johnny…blah blah blah.." As a teacher, you have a right to know, it is a relevant question and you have no explaining to do.

I’m 14 years old, and my community has a theatre/acting center for kids, BUT I would much rather direct and produce my own play! I found this website that has tons of scripts of plays for kids and teens and it doesn’t have any like copyright things (idk what they’re called), so there would be no problem with me using on of those plays. The next thing would be getting out there and getting kids to audition. I know how to advertise for this but the problem is: can a 14 year old produce and direct their own play?? I’m pretty sure there’s no age restrictions but it would make it a lot harder since we already have a community performing arts center, not to mention I’m only 14. But this is something I’ve wanted to do for a really really long time and I’m going to high school this year so I’ve finally decided to ACTUALLY follow through with it..

Any advice or help or any thoughts on what I’m trying to do and how I can get started?

Thanks! Much appreciated!

At 14, your main problem would be getting people to take you seriously. If you don’t have a lot of experience in the theatre, I’d say that’s where you need to start. If you haven’t had any acting training, you’d find it very hard to audition anyone, or direct the actors. Who’s going to listen to your opinions if you don’t have experience?
Most directors have acting training and experience – they might not be much good, but at least they’ve gone through the whole process.
I’d advise you to start with acting, and see how it goes. That way you’ll gain an understanding of things from the actors’ point of view.

I got accepted into Art Center College of Design, but unfortunately I can’t afford the tuition at the moment. I’m looking to attend a junior college and possibly earn a certificate (since that’s all they offer I think at JC’s) and later transfer some of the credits. What are some junior colleges in California that have well-known photography programs?

Elizabeth,

Have you spoken to the Financial Aid office? They can assist you in determining how to pay for your education. They are an excellent source of help.

Also, feel free to speak with one of the Admissions counselors. They can help you figure out what to take, where to take it, and other actionable items. To speak with a counselor call the main admissions number at 626.396.2373

Hope that helps!

I’m currently 16 years old and a junior in high school. My un-weighted GPA is around 3.95 and my weighted is around 4.36.
I last took the ACT in June 2010 and made a 30 on it; I am planning on re-taking it in February and am hoping to make at least a 33. I took the SAT for the first time in November and made a 2050.
I am second chair in the first violin section in my high school orchestra and have made high chairs in my state’s orchestra. I have taken 2 AP tests and will be taking another 7 in May.
I am currently selling shirts to help the charity Nothing But Nets.
I also volunteer at my state’s Arts Center, the Rice Depot, my local library, and a community center dedicated to the arts. I will also be attending Governor’s school in the summer and have participated in a religious/community event the past two summers doing mild construction work.
I am also planning on submitting some literature into some competitions.
I have also been commended for my photographs and articles in my school’s newspaper.

You’re certainly well-rounded and that’s what colleges look for in applicants. They want someone who doesn’t just spend their time studying. You show interest in the community through your volunteer work. Your GPA is quite solid. You show creative thinking through those literature competitions. You also have an extraordinarily high SAT score for your first time. You also show capability for college work through AP classes. You also can end up making a college’s orchestra better by participating in it. In a way, colleges would love to have someone who can help their orchestra. What’s not to like about you?

Children can go for class (sport, dance or art), theres facilities like a swimming pool, gym and suana, and daycare.

However, I don’t know what adults can do. Checkers? Bingo?

-With majors in multimedia, graphic design, programming, animation, etc
-preferably in north western parts LA or Ventura county

I live in Simi Valley so I was first thinking of attending Moorpark but they don’t offer enough online courses, at least not for my major.

other options i was considering:
Santa Monica Community College, Pasadena City College, College of the Canyons, LA mission, Pierce….

I heard Pasadena city college has the most transfers into the Pasadena art center… but that’s probably because of proximity and not necessarily based on the quality of their programs….
Hello future answerers…
I am asking this question on here for a reason.
Please refrain from giving obvious advice, such as "google" it and "ask a school counselor"
I am looking for the opinions from other students

Discuss this matter with an admissions counselor at Pasadena Art Center.
