ACT: 21 (equivalent to 1500 sat)
Extracurricular: Cricket, Green Club, Student Council Class Senator
Community Service: 100+ hours

WILL I GET IN?
You will have to check the profile of last years students they accepted and the precentiles. Your GPA is very low. But I would not get discouraged, because you never know. Just apply and wait for the outcome
Good Luck
I don’t mean to be arrogant, but I think I have the grades to be accepted into Columbia, but I need an opinion on some of the extracurriculars/volunteering I have:
-Member of National Honors Society (ARISTA, four pillars are leadership, scholarship, community, and service)
-Chemistry Lab Squad (help out at my school’s chem lab)
-Summer Arts Institute Class of ‘08 (attended free summer art school in NYC)
-Campaigned for politician 20 hours (volunteering?)
-Volunteered abroad in a hospital 117 hours (looks unique?)
-V.P. of Martial Arts Club in school (leadership position?)
-Going to tutor kids at the library next summer (volunteering/community?)
-Member of Freshman Advisory Council (leadership?)
-Member of Junior Advisory Council (leadership?)
-Cartoonist for school newspaper (extracurricular?)
Next to each activity I’ve written in parenthesis what it can apply to and/or details concerning it. I’m currently a junior (starting school in two days) and I live in NYC. And if you mist know I’m asian, not like "oriental" asian but south asian (brown)
Thanks so much for your time ![]()
Their really is only some much a Peron can do with extra curriculars so you have a decent amount. It helps you are a minority Ivy leagues need people like you You are also a junior which means you still have time to do more extra curriculars and etc. Do well on your SAT and you will be a very very good candidate! Good luck

Can I get into a good university (NOT community college) with a 3.14 GPA? Or will I really have to go to community college?
I do have lots of extracurilars and service learning hours (science club, junior class council, chess, and art club PLUS around 400 hours of community service). my downfall was taking 7 AP classes in one year and, well, it was wayyyyyyyyy too much I got pathetic grades. So yeah, thanks to that, my overall GPA is 3.14. can i get into a university with that, or will I have to go to community college?
*******Please no offensive comments. I realize 7 APs in one year was incredibly stupid. I know, I know. I already feel bad enough as it is…
You can get into at least an adequate university especially if you obtain a good SAT or ACT score, have good recommendations and write a good college essay./

Second, being a kid from Georgia, I actually know a lot of kids that applied and a lot more who didn’t get in, including a Valedictorian.
You’re really going to have to push up your grades and your SAT score. Community involvement wise, you’re fine.
Seriously, it’s a tough school to get in. You can’t just be good and you can’t just be part of the best. You have to be the best of the best.
Good luck though!

Any UC would be good. If you want to go to medical school, you should go to a college that you know you can succeed in. The key to getting into medical school is getting a high GPA and MCAT score. Where you go for undergrad doesn’t really matter.
Medical schools won’t care about your high school stuff, so enjoy your youth.
