I need a name for my theatre company?

Posted by admin on April 28th, 2010 and filed under community arts theatre | 5 Comments »

Last year I started a company that takes theatre to places in DC where there is little or no access to the arts (ie shelters, prisons, low income schools, etc). We are comprised of professional actors generally doing a 90 min version of a classical script (last year it was Shakespeare) and we bring the show for free to these communities. We originally were called Wandering Souls but are now needing to change our name (too long of a story to go into) and I would love some suggestions. I like the idea of art reaching the soul or escaping from reality….

I can’t really think of a good name at the moment but I wanted to commend you on what you’re doing. I think it’s great. I’ve been wanting to do the same thing here on the reservation for the Arapaho Tribe. Oh, wait, I just thought of one for you…Since you’re in the DC area…how about The Great American Theater Company….Or Old Glory Theater Company…Or how about George W. Sucks Theater Company….that last one might not work…but it’s a good one!!!
Good luck with it and whatever you come up with, let me say that you are doing a good thing.

Mark Herman at the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ

Posted by admin on April 17th, 2010 and filed under community arts theatre | 25 Comments »

“From This Moment On” (Cole Porter).

This is from a practice session at Berkeley Community Theatre for a concert I played there this January. The organ is a very large 4-manual, 41-rank Wurlitzer theatre organ installed in the huge 3,500-seat auditorium in Berkeley, CA. Please excuse the poor audio quality — it was just my built-in laptop mic!
