Yes, but also take as many engineering prerequisite classes as you can. You will probably need to spend two years at community college and three at university.

is it going to be harder to transfer after LaGuardia community college? do they accept community college students?
if you went through this same experience, feel free to explain your experience with transferring.
also best answer gets 10 points. (of course)

So long as your portfolio is strong enough, you absolutely can transfer into SVA or any other art school out of a community college. My main concern is normally twofold:

- Are your art classes at the cc strong enough to give you a good enough portfolio, and
- Will you be taking the right/enough art classes, so you’re not too far behind by the time you transfer?

To figure that out, go to the transfer pages for SVA and other good art schools that you like now, and find out what they require of transfer students. Then make sure you get those experiences while you’re at cc.

If you are serious about taking a martial art, you will forgo the college course in it at your local JUCO and go to a real martial art school.

I believe Pasadena City College offers cooking as a major because I know someone who says he’ll major in cooking there, but I’m not quite sure about the reputation.
On the other hand, I know this isn’t a community college, but I would recommend the Le Cordon Bleu, which has campuses in both Pasadena and Hollywood and offers associates degrees/programs in culinary/hospitality.

I’m planning to go to ccp for two years and transferring, but i need to know which courses i should take to become an attorney. I have the options of Liberal arts – Humanities, Liberal arts – general, Liberal arts – rel studies, Liberal arts – social/behavior science, or Justice. Which would be best?

there are no required courses to get into law school, unlike med school or some other professional degree programs.

my suggestion is take what courses interest you the most as you are prone to do better in those types of subjects.

in the end, your senior year of your undergraduate work, when you start applying to law schools…. admission decisions will be based primarily off of two numbers: your undergrad GPA and your LSAT score (law school admission test). above a 170 on your lsat and above 3.50 and you will have an awesome shot at most schools. 150 lsat and 3.0 gpa and your chance are drastically reduced, but it is still possible to find a decent school. below 150 and below 3.0 and your chances of going to law school are very limited.

this said, understand the importance of your GPA. take classes that you find to be interesting, not because some one suggests or tells you to take x,y, and z, (ironic i know)

something to consider – empirical studies suggest that students with a background in philosophy which includes logic perform better on the lsat than non-philosophy students. if you don’;t go that route, i would still suggest a course in logic before your lsat as the lsat is roughly 75% logical reasoning. good luck!

I was at a state university this past year and have decided to come home and go to my local community college. I was in English/Secondary Ed this year and I still intend on keeping my major once I transfer to a four year school after a year or two.

I have about 24 credits from my school, which are pretty much all gen eds, that will all transfer over for credit at community college. Should I just get my degree for general education or should I go with the liberal arts/English degree?

If you’re certain that you’re going to return to a 4-year for that English Ed degree then get the AA in general studies (transfer) at the community college because that gives you the most transferability back to the senior college.

"Liberal arts" and "General Education" at the CC level are about the same. Don’t do the English major unless you’re certain those major courses will transfer to a 4-year program.

If you think you might not go back to a 4-year and you’re going to be needing a job (like most people), then use the community college time to learn a marketable skill or trade. An AA in Liberal Arts, General Education, English, etc… isn’t very good for finding a job. An AAS in one of the health sciences, skilled trades, or technology is VERY good for finding a job.

If you’re going to spend two years at this community college, seeing as you already have 24 hours transfering in, then absolutely get a skilled trade qualification AND the general ed associates degree. Senior colleges will not usually transfer more than 60 hours from a community college but you’ve already collected almost half that many in lower level courses. You should only need 1 year to finish an AA (transfer) and about 1 year to finish an AAS in something.

The best plan though, if you really plan to become a secondary English teacher, is to stay at the senior college and finish that bachelor’s degree. Your plan is only adding time to completion.

I know community is usually a 2 year, right? I’m just asking because I want to get a higher education.

Community, junior, and technical colleges offer 2-year associates degrees. 4-year colleges and universities offer bachelors degrees, and universities also offer masters, professional degrees (law, med) and PhDs. State (public) schools are funded in part by the state; private schools are funded by tuition alone and tend to be more expensive. Liberal arts colleges are 4-year colleges offering the liberal arts majors (English, languages, arts, humanities, social sciences, sciences, computer science, math, etc) but usually not professional majors (engineering, nursing, accounting, etc). Most liberal arts colleges are private, but some are public (state funded).
