he is my compromise, if you are under 18, over 65 or have a medical condition, then the gov should help offset your expenses, they should pay for your medical and help you contribute to society. if at some point you get your degree and are working full time then some expenses can be paid by you and the money can go to help others in similar situations, or to help a poor family whose kids need to be covered. it is not about getting the services, it is about those who abuse them and deprive those that do need it.
References :
I know that you are saying all this to make a point , and a point well taken , or at least should be.

As a recently retired cop I have had the displeasure of dealing with people as you have described.
I think it sucks , to be honest, but that's how the system works.

I think these people ought to be working,(their capable of college),or be in an institution if it's as they say it is. It can be done and gotten away with tho, I did the same thing when I came home from VietNam, only in reverse.

After being wounded in VN I was given a 20% disability and a ck every month.
The thing is I always wanted to be a cop and joined the army with hopes of fulfilling my dream via the GI bill.
But a cop with a disability was "undesirable" so after college I went to the nearest VA Hosp. and said I was "all better" with no problems, my injury was from a bullet through my left side "love handel "area.
I was a cop for twenty one years and loved every moment of it.

My point is, you don't have to be on taxPayer hand out, my youngest brother was paralyzed in desert storm from the wast down, he teaches chemistry at a local high school.
There are alternatives.
References :
dad

I'm sorry you're not doing well, but I do still feel you're taking from my paycheck, and that you are a bit of a burden on society. Just so long as you know and work to get off the government's teet, it's all good.
References :
How's this for a serious answer? I think we should look back to the old days of churches, communities and others "passing around the hat" for people who are truly needy, and re-introduce the concept of a personal connection to charity.

I think that you should receive all the funding you need, but that the people paying taxes to support it be given your name and contact information so they can get in touch with you and make sure you are using the funds in the way intended. Just pick a couple of taxpayers out of a hat, and assign you to each other.

Take the bureaucrat out of the process! And also remind people who receive government funds exactly where the money is coming from.
References :
As long as you keep geeting money every month you will be in remission.

But I bet you never graduate or get a job.

I think you need to try harder.

But I don't think you should be on the streets.

I know I am bipolar and have a borderline personality disorder, but I made myself go to work every day and that made me sleep at night instead of watching TV all night feeling sorry for my self.
References :
If you can make it through school, then you can support yourself. I work with the mentally ill. There are many who are too ill to care for themselves. If you can go to culinary school, you are not disabled. And if indeed you are, the govt is wasting money giving you grants and vocational rehab because you will never be able to keep a job. You remind me of client I used to have who worked was on SSI bc she had an anger problem. She worked part time with the mentally disabled. How in the world one can do both is beyond me. You are not entitled to the check. You have not earned it. The govt is choosing to give it to you but you are not entitled and no matter how you spin it, you are getting money from those who have had to work.
References :
I think this question is a bit unfair, let me explain. When I complain about how lazy people get welfare checks in the mail for doing nothing, the biggest concern is the fact they can actually work instead of watching family feud for half the day. A lot of people in the past and present refuse work and stay on unemployment just to avoid doing something, and you do not fit that bill. I would be glad your case is funded, partly because of your condition but also because you feel the need to get educated. I'm not mad at all, its better that it went to you than some bum looking to get a fix on the street.
References :
Conservative

That's what Social Services are for. A safety net for people with serious problems.

As a matter of fact, Giuliani wanted to get Homeless people who had mental disorders off the street and into the proper facilities and Rosie O'Donnell accused him of "Arresting the Homeless!", so I don't think it's fair to blame Republicans. I volunteer time and money to a homeless shelter, and most of my friends do, as well.
You should see the corporate donations that come in from Republican fundraisers. Too bad rhetoric reigns in this country.
References :
I'm a conservative and have no problem with this.

I'm happy to hear you're going to a community college. We cons, have no problem with people who try.

Good luck...I wish you the best.
