Well many people from my drama degree set up companies after leaving. The degree was based in Hull and I know that there were ones set up in Hull, Leeds and Sheffield. All of which have gone on to have successful shows (rash dash, awkward cough and middle child are their names if you are interested) there is some competition but the arts have a good base in those cities.
References :
The sky is the limit. If you really want to do it, you can. It only depend of how hard you are willing to work at it. I know amazing actresses that have made it in Broadway, win awards and everything and I can tell you, they are ALWAYS practicing and rehearsing and working on their craft. So, if you want to make it in Broadway you have to commit to that 100%.

Sure you can also do the Archaeology career at the same time, but do a major in theater too. The only way to make it is by committing 100% to it.

Good luck!
References :
www.PenaTalent.com

Personally I would not enroll in the summer program unless you got legit college credit for it. There is a little theater in my area that "milks" students with fees and then makes more money off them in ticket sales. The guy running the place apparently has little formal education in theater , but he uses his excuse for a theater workshop to get people to pay him for training. He then promotes the shows so he can get more money off ticket sales. The shows have the reputation of generally being lousy, but tickets sell because the students want their friends and family to see them in a play.

While I believe your 11 week workshop is far more legit, you would be doing a lot of work and paying a steep price for very little benefit. You could take the workshop just for the fun of it if you've got lots of extra cash available, but there are probably far better options available at the nearby campus. I doubt that it would improve the value of your experience much in comparison to the steep price.
References :
former college adviser
I have also appeared in some amateur theater productions,TV commercials,a TV show intro, and even as a movie extra a couple of times. This was not so much because of acting talent but more likely the result of being vertically gifted-I'm 6'7" which is a hard quality to find for some acting parts. I usually played the big authoritarian figures.

My role is to be a chronic iconoclast.
That makes me an eternal outsider.
My sculptures are unique, and I use them to help people communicate better.
References :
http://greatest-secret-human-power.blogspot.com

If you work with one of the best acting coaches in LA ask him. He should be able to answer all your questions.
References :
Yes, but also take as many engineering prerequisite classes as you can. You will probably need to spend two years at community college and three at university.
