Okay. I want to major in film production. I am a senior on highschool and as of fall of next year I either want to:
A. Go to CalArts or San Francisco Art Institute to recieve my BFA in film.
or
B. Go to a community college to get my general ed then possibly transfer to a private university (Chapman, Emerson, etc.)
What should I do. Do Ihave to have my Gen. Ed. Before my BFA or do I get it at the same time?
I am a designer. I went to design school. NYU has an amazing film school, and so does the Rhode Island School of Design. It is the best design school in the world. I would avoid Community College because film is very competitive. You will meet more successful people at a full on art school and it will be a better name to back your career choice. In order to get into the industry it wouldn’t hurt to surround yourself with creative people from the start. Be ready for a challenge and excited for the journey. Art school is an amazing experience you will never forget
Forgot to add most art schools will not accept most credits from community colleges. If you want to get ahead go to the art school right away.
Just because it’s art school doesn’t mean you won’t be learning liberal arts. All art schools require you to take english, sciences, and art histories. So yes you will be doing general education along with your artistic studies.
Communiy college first

If I was you I would go for getting your BFA in film right off the bat. It looks better to employers. Your Gen. Ed.’s will be included when you study for your major at a 4 year university.

I would suggest getting your core courses taken care of at a community college. It saves money, and prepares you for a four year college. But then again, it would all depend on you, the student.

I dont know what you have to do but B sounds like a better option to me its hard to major in film production and get a good job so its probably better to at least get a general education first and as soon as possible so i would go with that if i were you it never hurts to get as smart as you can about as much as you can

Maybe you should have to take a community college first before transffering to a private university. Short term goals first and then take what you really want. You should not hurry to gaduate in college. it takes time to be able to be successful.
