High School GPA horrible then I got Dean’s list in college. Can I Transfer to a great Art school?

So basically, I graduated high school in 2005 with a 2.0 and after a year of working I decided to take my education seriously. I applied and got into State College. In my freshman year I managed a cumulative 3.6 GPA. I’m planning on staying one more semester and transfering in the spring. I want to transfer to a very good Art school.. I guess ivy league is out of the question.. Also, I took ACT rather than SAT… the math section killed me.

Here’s what I have to offer:

Major: Art Education
GPA: 3.7, grades are all A’s except for two B’s
ACT: 20
Clubs: Art Club, Habitat for Humanity (in HS yearbook/art club)
Credits: 34 (will have 15 extra from fall semester)
Extra: Job @ summer art camp as teachers assistant, Attended Skidmore College summer 6 program in the arts in 2003, courses at a local art center, Habitat for Humanity as community service.
*oh and i actually have talent in art..

the schools i would loooove to go to are:
Pratt or NYU

So am I kidding myself?

Check with the colleges you want to get into — they are the only ones who can answer your question truthfully, and they have knowledge of what they are looking for in a student. Our answers here are speculation.

Good luck.

Pratt–probably you will get in. Not sure about NYU.

With your extras and your GPA you will probably get into many art schools, plus since you will have more than 30 credits earned by the time you transfer the schools will not look at your ACT score or your high school transcripts. It will all be based on GPA and essay. Good Luck!
