Money for Artists

James Kalm is honored by the WAGMAG for his years of contributing insights and comments about the local scene. In response, he decides to pay tribute to the Williamsburg arts community and take on the current recession at the same time. James and Kate came up with this conceptual performance piece titled The James Kalm Artists Economic Stimulus Grant.

Not a bad idea but …
Not a bad idea but not original. The K Foundation put it all on the line when they tried to exhibit 1 million in hard cold cash in England . To highlight the relationship between art and money. They then awarded 20 thousand to the worst artist of the year. Which was based on the turner prize nominees who for the first time were voted on by the british public. Having been shunned by all the British major galley’s they burnt the I million and turned the ashes into a house hold brick.

I am afraid that those bills wil be matted and framed-hoarded like the money the banks got. Maybe as an executive at Kalm Report, you will have to get rid of your corporate bicycle and start walking in New York City. As my dad use to say: Don’t spend it all in one place!
