Question for those who have directed Musicals in the past. . . .?

I am involved in theater, and my community is very art and theater oriented. I am just wondering about the process of casting a musical. It seems like in certain theaters, you see some of the same people in the leads. Are directors sometimes pressured to have certain people play the leading role? Do you look more at looks or talent when casting certain parts?

You are looking for people who can bring the characters to life. Who can show their humor and humanity. And can sing and dance.

It’s common for directors to like to work with the same people because THEY ARE A KNOWN QUANTITY… it’s hard enough to direct a musical without having to use unknown people or less than top or well known talent… When a DIRECTOR takes over a new company, they like to bring in their own people.. well.. MUSICALS are NOT ANY DIFFRACT..
