I am a young student with a budding interest in art history. I’m currently attending community college and would like to transfer to a University with an esteemed and highly successful baccalaureate program in the subject. I need to know which schools are the BEST.

I don’t have a concentration of study at the moment so I am open to anything.

If you’re talking about an undergraduate degree, the best schools in general will most likely have the best art history programs (your usual top schools, the Ivy’s, etc; see this: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/college/national-search). Any of the top schools will have a "highly successful" art history department. However, to narrow that down further, I’m willing to bet the schools with the best graduate programs would have equally excellent undergraduate programs. Those would be Harvard, Yale, Columbia, NYU, CUNY, Berkeley– just to get you started.

If I were you I would just try to transfer to the best university you can.

Given that many of the grants towards the arts have been cut in order to divert extra funds to the LONDON Olympics.

Can someone please tell me, or preferably show me, what benefit will be had by any community outside London.

Please dont answer by saying that sports events will be spread around the UK, we all know that some of the very minor events(such as no – hoper football teams, with minimal attendance) may be played at outlying football grounds.
What I want to know is, what financial benefit will the LONDON Olympics have for the rest of the country, how will it benefit the average "Joe" on the dole que in say Newcastle Upon Tyne?

What financial or leisure benefits are their in the leisure and sports facilities which are costing us all a fortune, for anyone outside travelling distance of London?

Is it not time to return the games to Athens Permanently?
tinypony

my apologies, I did not realise tat we all had this craving to live in London.
As for the pleasure of watching the sport, well all I can say is that what you will be watching apparently is a bunch of steroid pumped athletes getting medals which they will return in the near future.
But hey, if that lights your candles then so be it!
Hi Richard

Yes wales was thrown a bone by the government to quell the screams for independance.
Sheffield already has an Olympic Pool so why build another one.
The olympic village of which you speak, will be turned into expensive flats for outsiders when the games are finished and the developers will walk away with a tidy profit at the expense of the British Tax payer
Arch0049

Speak up young man, even trolls like you are allowed an opinion

Give the Olympics a permanent home in Greece with every participating country paying towards its upkeep, costs and security. Rent it out for other competitions or rent the accommodation out to tourists and holidaymakers when it’s not being used.

Then we wouldn’t have these expensive campaigns every 4 years to see who could host the games, we wouldn’t have to have billions paid out by different countries building pools, stadiums, accommodation and venues. And if it was used for tourism in non-Olympic years, it would also help to pay for itself.

He has received several awards in High School for his art at local community colleges. However, his passion is music. He auditioned for American Idol last year when they came to Chicago. His current school does not have a music program he is intrested in. I believe is getting a little discouraged because he can’t do music. Can anyone reccomend a school that has a good music program in IL if possible? We will consider outside of the state as well.
Extracurriculars: NHS, Student Council, ETC (theatre), School Ambassador, Community Service Club, French Lessons, Voice Lessons

I’ve taken French all throughout high school, and am additionally taking an American Sign Language Class. Also, I was thinking about studying ASL outside of school as well.

Obama File 84 Why Was Obama’s "Brain" Valerie Jarrett So Happy to Hire Communist Van Jones? Was it Fate?
Obama File 83 here (The newspaper clippings, photos, charts, could not be copy/pasted, so go to NewZeal on the web and they are there in the files. Trevor Louden is a comunist researcher. This was entered as evidence on the floor of the house of representatives this year)

Why was President Barack Obama’s friend and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett so happy to recruit Bay Area communist Van Jones to the White House?

Van Jones’ radicalism was well known on the US left. His links to STORM and Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism were no secret.

Why would Valerie Jarrett be happy about a socialist advising her friend and president?

It is now well established that Barack Obama was linked to the Hawaiian Communist Party network through his boyhood/teenage mentor Frank Marshall Davis.

It is also well known that after moving to Chicago, Obama linked up with the local communist networks.

Manning Marable, a leader of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism claims that Obama "understands what socialism is. A lot of the people working with him are, indeed, socialists with backgrounds in the Communist Party or as independent Marxists. There are a lot of people like that in Chicago who have worked with him for years…"

It seems that Valerie Jarrett is simply following a family tradition-one of promoting up and coming radical politicians.

In the late 1940s Valerie Jarrett’s future father in law, Vernon Jarrett was a rising activist and journalist on the South Side of Chicago.

Vernon Jarrett worked in the South Side Community Art Center and on the black run Chicago Defender newspaper.

The Communist Party had several cadre in both organizations, including a covert member, the black poet and journalist Frank Marshall Davis.

Jarrett and Davis also had a third organisation in common-Communist Party dominated Citizen’s Committee to Aid Packing House Workers-which in 1948 was "organized to support the united packing-House workers of America C.I.O. now on strike"

The letter above is dated April 12, 1948. Note that CIO (Congress of Industrial Organizations) was at the time a communist controlled labor federation.

To the left is a partial list of Citizen’s Committee to Aid Packing House Workers officials.

Note the names Oscar C. Brown (Treasurer) and Louise T. Patterson (Assistant Treasurer), F.M. Davis and Vernon Jarrett.

To confirm the connection, below is a close-up of the organization’s publicity committee. Note that it is chaired by Vernon Jarrett and includes Frank Marshall Davis.

That the Citizen’s Committee was communist influenced is beyond doubt.

Louise T Patterson was the wife of Illinois Communist Party vice-chairman William Patterson and a prominent Party member in her own right.

Further down the page was list of the organization’s "Food and groceries committee". Named among them was Ishmael Flory, a leader of the Illinois Communist Party from the late 1930s until his death in 2004.

Oscar C Brown-later a famous jazz musician under the name Oscar Brown Jnr, was also at the time a Communist Party member. He joined in 1946 and was expelled around 1954.

In 1948 Vernon Jarrett left his job as journalist at the Chicago Defender to start a black oriented radio show "Negro Newsfront" with Oscar Brown.

Late the same year Frank Marshall Davis moved to Hawaii where he was active in the underground Communist Party. At one point, like many of his comrades Davis became a Democratic Party official.

Later in 1970, Frank Marshall Davis met and mentored a fellow future Democrat-Barack Obama.

Vernon Jarrett was clearly on the left and possibly, like his colleague Frank Marshall Davis, a covert member of the Communist Party.

Vernon Jarrett went on to become the Chicago Tribune’s first black syndicated columnist and was a founder of the National Association of Black Journalists.

According to a Washington Post obituary May 25th 2004.

Mr. Jarrett continually shone a light on African American history and pertinent issues in Chicago and throughout the country. He stoked the political embers in Chicago that led to the 1983 election of the city’s first African American mayor, Harold Washington.

Vernon Jarrett was a key influence in Washington’s decision to run for the Chicago mayoralty and remained a key supporter through his four year tenure.

Harold Washington defeated the Daley machine to win the mayoralty backed by a coalition led by Chicago’s Communist Party and the local branch of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

DSA member and socialist historian Paul Buhle, wrote in a 1992 article for the Encyclopedia of the American Left;

Communists also gained from long-standing political contacts in the black community. Victories of black mayoral and congressional candida

1. Better organize your information first, and shorten it to a more relevant pieces, or at least to the length where you will capture your audience’s attention.
2. cumunist is not a word, unless you look it up in urban dictionary.
3. The correct spelling I believe you are aiming for is communist.
4. Please be more careful when you post. You are embarrassing those of us who believe our president is up to no good, and that he does have socialist/marxist beliefs and plans for our country.

If I am not wrong, all community colleges in NYC offer liberal art courses. You could look at CUNY colleges. They are not so expensive. The only CUNY college that has a dorm is Queens college.

I’m a sophomore in high school right now, and only last year did I really start learning about drama, but I really love it and would like to pursue it in college. As far as I know, Tisch is one of the best schools for film and theatre but it’s very competitive to get in. I’m worried that I don’t have enough experience. As far as academics are concerned, I think I’m set. I’m taking all honors and AP, and my GPA is almost 4.0, 99.3 on a 100 pt. scale. Is there anything else I should do academically? I’m also very involved in music and band and compete regularly – does that help?

I am in theatre and drama club at school, and so far I have been in five plays and musicals either at school or at the community theatre downtown, but nothing huge and so far no leading roles. I also did a few videos for an insurance company when I was little for marketing purposes. I know I still have two more years to establish a more impressive resume, but mainly:

I want to know if I have a chance starting as late as I have in theatre or if I’ll be completely overshadowed by more experienced actors if I apply to NYU for drama. What is most important when auditioning (and applying)?

I think you are fine as the academic stand point. You may want to have something that makes you stand out from the crowd. You are right to be worried about NYU for drama. It’s very hard to get into it, and acting itself may not be for you. I have been acting since I was 6, and have been in more than 20 plays. I now for the past 3-4 years have been getting a film actor, and have two talent agents. Acting is really not about how good looking you are, or how talented you are. It is just about timing and luck! You can see all of those stars getting discovered in restaurants, at banks, and on accident. The good think about NYU is that they need to have people who have potential and not pro actors, but experience does help. You may have a shot, but you need to start getting real training at an acting studio. You don’t even have to live in a major city, but just don’t go into things which are scams. Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Nashville, Milwaukee, and etc are all city’s which have may have a market for you. It may be too late, but you need practice on those monologues. You may also need to have a back up plan. I would double major in something else, and know for a fact NYU lets you do this. I want to do print journalism and film acting. You also need to find out if you want to do theater or film acting. There both very different. You may or not get in, but don’t feel bad if you don’t. There people who have been acting since 5, and still don’t get in. Good Luck!

Hi, there I’m only eleven years old and I lived in Long Beach, Ca.I really love acting but I don’t know any theaters in where I lived that having classes and how much do they usually cost.I only know 3 theaters and I also have seen them. One is the Found Theater,The AMC Theater and The Long Beach Performing Art Center. But I don’t know if they have classes and how do I find out if they have one?And do theaters where they show movies the same thing as a community and local theaters? What are local/community theaters? It would really help if you try to answer all of them.

Ok, AMC is a movie theatre, and Long Beach Performings Arts Center is actually a performance venue rather than an actual theatre company. Someone might say local/community theatres to mean any small theatre company (where they put on plays and musicals, not movies). A community theatre is a theatre where the actors don’t get paid, a "local" theatre means more of a small professional (or semi-professional) theatre company (meaning actors do get paid, even though it’s often not that much).

So, the Found Theatre is the right type of theatre company, but I looked on their website, and it looks like they don’t offer any classes.

Here’s what I found:
http://lbplayhouse.com/?p=103 Long Beach Playhouse Summer Theatre School–it says summer 2010 info coming soon.
http://www.lbshakespeare.org/education/education.html Long Beach Shakespeare Co. -various spring classes, spring break camp, and summer camps.
