Signs and Symbols: The Community Arts Initiative Artist Project

For the “Signs and Symbols” project, children from after-school programs and community organizations across Boston looked at how words and characters are paired together to convey messages. Working with Cambridge-based artist and author Caleb Neelon, the children then created signs featuring their own verbal and character-driven messages.

The Community Arts Initiative is generously supported by the Linde Family Foundation.

The Artscape Wychwood Barns Story

Artscape has transformed the historic Wychwood TTC streetcar repair barns located in Torontos St. Clair and Christie neighbourhood into the Artscape Wychwood Barns a 60,000 sq. ft. multifaceted community centre where arts and culture, environmental leadership, heritage preservation, urban agriculture and affordable housing are brought together to foster a strong sense of community. The Artscape Wychwood Barns is surrounded by a 127,000 sq. ft. new City park.

After seven years of passionate commitment, vision and planning by thousands of individuals and organizations, construction began in March 2007 and was completed in October 2008. The Official Public Opening took place on November 20, 2008.

Culmination Ceremony Speech-Leah Prunty Dance Arts Grant Recipients

Hello! This is a video of the speech Mrs. Leah Prunty gave at the Youth Community Development Council Culmination Ceremony. Branches of the council consisted of high school and junior college students who came together to award worthy organizations a grant to help make positive changes in their communities. The grant supported the LPDA Summer Open Air Concert which took place on Saturday, June 12, 2010. The concert was a vehicle to get the word out about the importance of keeping arts education as a part of students regular learning experience in schools.The concert also raised funds to purchase classroom supplies for the Leah Prunty Dance Arts After School Performing Arts Program.

Monmouth County Teen Arts Festival 2009

The Monmouth County Arts Council in collaboration with Brookdale Community College presented the 2009 Teen Arts Festival March 19 & 20, 2009 on the campus of Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, NJ. An exciting and unique event, the Monmouth County Arts Council’s Teen Arts Festival is an exceptional opportunity for teens aged 13 to 19 to experience all disciplines of the arts and to participate in workshops, performances, exhibits, and critiques.

Nearly 1700 teens attended this year, representing 29 different middle and high schools in Monmouth County, both public and private.

During the two festival days, over 20 artists/teachers presented workshops and master classes in their individual specialties, including drama, filmmaking, voice, acting, instrumental music and more.
