While Community Café deepened its roots in Chicago, IMAN extends its branches in New York City with a very special Community Café at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem. After an incredibly successful Community Café at the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial Center in January of 2009, we are returning to New York on January 23rd of 2010 for our grandest edition of Community Café yet, God willing!

The NALAC Leadership Institute, www.nalac.org

Now in its 8th year, the NALAC Leadership Institute brings emerging Latino artists and key staff of community based Latino arts and cultural organizations from across the nation for intensive training in nonprofit arts management and leadership development. Fifteen to twenty applicants are selected to attend each year, and up to two people from an organization can apply!

The NALAC Leadership Institute has created a powerful national network of Latino arts leaders, whose creative intellect is shaping the future of Latino arts and culture.

The NALAC Leadership Institute training includes instruction in such areas as:

• Fundraising and Grant Writing
• Capacity Building
• Audience Development
• Outreach & Publicity
• New Technologies
• Trends in Philanthropy
• Leadership Transition
• Case Study Reviews

The NALAC Leadership Institute also provides the unique opportunity to meet and network with peers from around the country working in every artistic discipline.

Past Leadership Institute instructors and presenters have included Rosalba Rolon (Pregones Theater), Abel Lopez (GALA Theatre), Maribel Alvarez (The Southwest Center), Anthony J. Garcia (El Centro Su Teatro), Jesse Borrego (Actor) and Tomas Ybarra Frausto (independent scholar).

Applying to the Leadership Institute is a benefit of NALAC membership. Sacred Geometry and the Greenspoint Bridge Mosaic Project 2

Instructor, Roderic Watson lead a team of 20 high school students, from YES Prep., in the creation of Sacred Geometry designs. The designs will be incorporated into ceramic tile mosaic sidewalk inlays that will be a part of the new Greenspoint Bridge in Houston Texas. The project is sponsored by the Greenspoint Redevelopment Authority. This is another public art project by the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston. Arts Council for Long Beach Presents Create Long Beach

The Arts Council for Long Beach is working to update the city’s cultural master plan. The process began last year guided by a Steering Committee of 75 Community Leaders. Input was generated from throughout Long Beach. That first phase produced a documents of six major goals and proposed strategies. The second phase is underway now to develop to implementation strategies and we need everyone’s input.
